Quickly and efficiently load data from your legacy business systems

  • Do you have thousands of records to load?
  • Is the standard grid UI method of loading records to slow and tedious?
  • Would a load template save you a lot of data prep time?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then you need an efficient data load utility.

Problems

  1. Inefficient data load process. The OEM-prescribed method of loading data is to manually cut and paste records from an application such as MS Excel into the grid user interface of SL7. This works fine for tens or even a few hundred records. However, it is unacceptably slow and tedious for tables that contain thousands, let alone hundreds of thousands of records.
  2. Human error. When the data load process is not standardized, raw data can be accidentally presented in an incorrect format and then manually pasted into SyteLine. It is not convenient to alter the order in which fields are loaded.
  3. No support for edits upon load. Often when migrating to a new system, a company wants to takes the opportunity to change it's data values. Example: Change every occurrence of customer number "123" to a new value of "456". Or, change every occurrence of Item "123" to "123-old". There are no standard load functions such as this in SL7.
  4. Converting from SyteLine 4 or earlier is complicated. Existing Symix and SyteLine users must follow a rigorous multi-step database conversion process. It is necessary that  ERP be upgraded to a version such as SyteLine 5 which is compatible with the SL7 upgrade utility. The cost of time and disk space to accomplish this can be undesirable.

 Evaluate

The process of loading data is time consuming and can jeopardize an implementation timeline. It can detract your consultant's attention from other important tasks. Further, it is essential that data be loaded in a consistent manner using templates that you can control.
